Now you can text for safer sex

TEXT FOR SAFER SEX WITH FIRST EVER
SMS CONDOM DELIVERY SERVICE

Red-faced couples too embarrassed to buy condoms could become a thing of the past thanks to the launch of txtdomz, the first ever condoms available via text message.

Putting an end to furtive hovering in the local chemist, txtdomz enables any mobile phone user to order six condoms by simply texting the word txtdomz followed by their name and address to 87121. The service is open 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year. A total of £3.50 including postage and packaging is billed to the mobile phone, meaning there is no need for credit or debit cards, cheques or cash.

One in 10 Brits has had unsafe sex because they were too embarrassed to buy condoms or concerned someone they know would see them, and one in twenty admits to having regular con-domestics - rows over who shells out for the sheaths.

The service is expected to most popular with bashful teenagers. With almost half of teens (49 per cent) citing embarrassment over buying condoms as a key reason for having unprotected sex[i], txtdomz could help to reduce the 90,000 teen pregnancies and 58,000 sexually transmitted infections recorded every year in the UK. txtdomz is actively supporting the Want Respect campaign - established to help prevent teenage pregnancy and reduce STIs amongst young people - and is currently distributing thousands of free condoms in 'Don't Panic' kits sited in shops and clubs around the country.

Jon Jarvis, Director of txtdomz says: "The UK has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Europe, and there is an increasing trend towards younger people contracting sexually related diseases.

"txtdomz makes having safer sex easier than ever before, as people needn't feel that they risk being caught out buying condoms, or that others need know their business. As most young people are inseparable from their mobile phones, they can now use them to take responsibility for their own bodies."

As soon as txtdomz receives an order, the condoms are despatched by first class post. The pack contains two ribbed, two natural and two flavoured condoms, and is delivered in a discreet plain white jiffy bubble wrap, avoiding any blushes or awkward questions from parents or peers.

Recent research from likeitis.org reveals worrying myths surrounding age restrictions when it comes to purchasing precautions, with 39 per cent of teens mistakenly believing that you have to be 16 to buy condoms.[ii] With one in ten young people already having sex by the age of 14[iii], txtdomz aims to help remove the fear of being asked for proof of age when buying protection.

Continues Jarvis: "Teenage sex is a serious issue. txtdomz is not about encouraging underage individuals to have sex, but providing an accessible, discreet and fun way for the sexually active to be smart and take active steps to safeguard their own health and futures."

Ever been stuck in a potentially very sticky situation with no condom? Then maybe txtdomz is the company of choice for you! Available in packs of six, txtdomz is the first ever company to allow customers to order contraception via their mobile phone.

This one off company aims to put an end in ‘furtive hovering in the local chemist’ by allowing mobile phone users to order condoms by simply texting the word ‘txtdomz’
followed by their name and address to 87121.

At a price of £3.50 including postage and packaging (yes, I do want to make a childish joke here…but I refrain) txtdomz claim that they could ‘help to reduce the 90,000 teenage pregnancies recorded every year in the UK.’

As soon as txtdomz receives an order, the condoms are dispatched by first
class post. The pack contains two ribbed, two natural and two flavored
condoms, and is delivered in a discreet plain white jiffy bubble wrap,
avoiding any blushes or awkward questions from parents or peers.

According to a survey conducted by tickbox.net, one in 10 Brits has had unsafe sex because they were too embarrassed to buy condoms or were concerned that someone they know would see them, and one in twenty admits to having regular con-domestics - rows over who has to shell out for the sheaths. Nice.

The service is expected to explode with bashful teenagers. With reportedly
49% of teenagers expressing embarrassment over buying condoms as a key reason for having unprotected sex, txtdomz seem to think that their service ‘could help to reduce 58,000 sexually transmitted infections recorded every year in the UK’

Txtdomz itself is a rather active company, too, supporting the Want Respect
campaign, established to help prevent teenage pregnancy and reduce STIs
amongst young people, and is currently distributing thousands of free
condoms in 'Don't Panic' kits sited in shops and clubs around the country.

So there you have it. Complete discretion with a service that is arguably value for money. With us all clued up on how to order a pizza too, I don’t think we need ever leave the house again!Disclaimer: This company is not a piss-take.

Condom orders on your mobile
By Paula Murray

TEENAGERS are the target of a new safe sex initiative - via mobile phones.

Passionate couples will be able to text an order for condoms through the service and have the contraceptives delivered to their door.

The service is available to all age groups but is expected to be particularly popular and useful among younger couples.

A recent survey by teenage website likeitis.org found nearly half of young people risked pregnancy or disease because they were too embarrassed to buy condoms.

Jon Jarvis, of Txtdomz, the company behind the service, said yesterday: "Txtdomz makes having safer sex easier than ever before, as people needn't feel that they risk being caught out buying condoms."

Textdomz are already distributing thousands of free condoms in "Don't Panic kits" in shops and clubs across the UK.

Shirley Fraser, health improvement project manager with Health Scotland, said: "If it offers another route to getting condoms and therefore protection we welcome it."

Even among adults, there is still embarrassment at buying condoms, with one in 10 Brits admitting they shy away from the task.

Txtdomz will charge £3.50 for six condoms sent by first-class post - charged directly to the phone.

Text plan to supply condoms to teens Apr 21 2006

By Alison Dayani, Birmingham Mail

SEXUALLY active schoolchildren are being encouraged to slash the region's sky-high teenage pregnancy rate by pushing all the right buttons - on their mobile phones.

Health bosses are hoping teens will latch on to the first ever condom texting service which will enable them to order packets of the contraceptives.

Bashful youngsters can text the word 'txtdomz' plus their name and address for six low cost condoms, including some flavoured, to be posted to their front door the next day.

The pack even arrives in a discreet plain white jiffy bubble wrap, avoiding any awkward questions from parents.

Organisers believe it will cut the number of unplanned teen pregnancies across Birmingham, which has some of the highest rates in Europe, by helping youngsters too embarrassed to buy condoms over the counter.

There is no legal age limit on buying condoms but 40 per cent of teenagers having sex think they must be 16 to purchase protection. And nearly half of teenagers revealed embarrassment of buying condoms as a key reason for having unprotected sex.

The Department of Health is now using the scheme as part of its Want Respect campaign in Birmingham to prevent teenage pregnancy rates rising.
